Day 29: Psalm 29- Who Deserves Your Praise More? A Basketball Player Who Makes a Three Pointer Shot or God?

Good Day,

 Psalm 29 -The Message (MSG)

1-2 Bravo, God, bravo! Gods and all angels shout, "Encore!"
   In awe before the glory,
in awe before God's visible power.
   Stand at attention!
Dress your best to honor him!

3 God thunders across the waters,
Brilliant, his voice and his face, streaming brightness—
   God, across the flood waters.

 4 God's thunder tympanic,
   God's thunder symphonic.

 5 God's thunder smashes cedars,
   God topples the northern cedars.

6 The mountain ranges skip like spring colts,
The high ridges jump like wild kid goats.

 7-8 God's thunder spits fire.
   God thunders, the wilderness quakes;
He makes the desert of Kadesh shake.

9 God's thunder sets the oak trees dancing
A wild dance, whirling; the pelting rain strips their branches.
We fall to our knees—we call out, "Glory!"

10 Above the floodwaters is God's throne
      from which his power flows,
from which he rules the world.

11 God makes his people strong.
   God gives his people peace.

Psalm 29 Commentary:

I love this Psalm because it is David just going crazy over praising God for His wondrous works, for who He is, and for what He can do. When I read this Psalm, it encourages me to praise God and cheer Him on, to say, bravo, bravo, bravo God! (v1).
Why is it people are so quick to shout and praise a school team when a player makes a shot at a basketball game; however, when in church, they hold their lips closed and paste their arms and hands down to their hips? Why are we so reserved? Doesn’t God deserve all the glory and praise? Doesn’t the Bible command us to praise and lift our hands in the sanctuary?
Think about it this way. Who deserves it more? Your friend who got the three- pointer shot or the King of Kings who has died for you and stands by you day-in and day-out? When put this way, it is easy to see that we need to fix this error. It is ok to cheer on teammates, but it is not ok to hold your praise back and keep silent.  This makes God sad. The Bible tells us that God is a jealous God. Put Him first and turn your praise up too!
