Day 38: Psalm 38- Forsake Me Not Oh God; Make Haste to Help Me

Dear Friends,
I am so excited that this blog is reaching people beyond the four walls of Gulf Coast Assembly of God. Many of you know that my mom is sick, but I am committed to this blog, to the Lord’s youth, and its readers. It is being read in Germany, Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, South Korea, Guatemala, Brazil, the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom. I see these stats growing and changing every day, and I am encouraged that this blog is reaching many people. On to today’s Psalm, shall we?
Though the entire Psalm 38 is splendid, today I would like to focus on verses 21 and 22: “Lord, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God. Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.” How many times have you ever prayed that prayer? Have you ever wondered “is God here for me? He is for sure!
We know in Hebrews that it says that “I will never leave you or forsake you.” (13:5 NIV ). God is nigh as I told my mom today. We can read this Psalm and wonder about sickness and sin and question God; instead I we choose focus on this:  when we “confess our sins, that He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (NLT). That’s where we are, and it’s the best place to be. We can think there are no more chances, or we can look to the Word of God for insight.
“The thief (enemy) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the fullest (John 10:10 NLT). Life in Christ begins today, right now. Confess and move on. There are always first, second, and third chances.  The truth is just that; meanwhile, while in the blender of life, we need to look to the author and finisher of our faith. Satan is the father of lies. We know that the Word says that “God cannot lie”. (Titus 1:2; Numbers 23:19). Friends, this is all I need to know what the truth is. Know the truth and the truth will make you free. Two wrongs never make a right; sin can be cut at its ugly head, and Jesus is the one who comes and gives us life. We don’t have to listen to lies. Stay in the Word; read, hear, do, and know the truth!

Psalm 38 -New International Version (NIV)

Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger
    or discipline me in your wrath.
Your arrows have pierced me,
    and your hand has come down on me.
Because of your wrath there is no health in my body;
    there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin.
My guilt has overwhelmed me
    like a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds fester and are loathsome     because of my sinful folly.
I am bowed down and brought very low;
    all day long I go about mourning.
My back is filled with searing pain;     there is no health in my body.
I am feeble and utterly crushed;     I groan in anguish of heart.
All my longings lie open before you, Lord;
    my sighing is not hidden from you.
10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me;
    even the light has gone from my eyes.
11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds;     my neighbors stay far away.
12 Those who want to kill me set their traps,     those who would harm me talk of my ruin;
    all day long they scheme and lie.
13 I am like the deaf, who cannot hear,     like the mute, who cannot speak;
14 I have become like one who does not hear,
    whose mouth can offer no reply.
15 Lord, I wait for you;
    you will answer, Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Do not let them gloat     or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip.”
17 For I am about to fall,     and my pain is ever with me.
18 I confess my iniquity;     I am troubled by my sin.
19 Many have become my enemies without cause[b];
    those who hate me without reason are numerous.
20 Those who repay my good with evil     lodge accusations against me,
    though I seek only to do what is good.
21 Lord, do not forsake me;     do not be far from me, my God.
22 Come quickly to help me,     my Lord and my Savior.
